Our Young Toddler Class is designed to nurture the curiosity and developmental needs of children ages 15 to 27 months. This crucial stage of growth is supported by a warm, stimulating environment where little ones can explore, discover, and develop at their own pace.
Our program places a strong emphasis on language development, concentration, problem-solving, visual discrimination, and physical coordination. The foundation is built on the routines of everyday living, promoting independence, order, coordination, and concentration. Our program sets the stage for a lifelong love of learning, self-confidence, and the intrinsic desire to learn. A catered lunch is provided daily.
First Day of School: August 12th
A key concept in our Young Toddler Class is the Work Cycle, a fundamental Montessori principle. It encourages the children to independently select activities, engage with them, and responsibly clean up afterward. This process fosters independence, decision-making, self-discipline, and a sense of community.
Practical life activities focus on everyday tasks that help children build essential life skills. These activities promote independence, coordination, concentration, gross motor development, and a sense of order. Examples include pouring, transferring objects, food preparation, practicing dressing skills, and caring for themselves and their environment.
Our Sensorial area engages the children in activities that stimulate their senses and foster cognitive development. Through hands-on exploration with puzzles, stamps, and sorting games, they learn to recognize patterns, colors, and shapes. These experiences enhance problem-solving abilities while encouraging sensory exploration in an interactive way.
In the Fine Motor area, the children develop precision and control through activities like threading shapes, peeling stickers, and working with knobbed puzzles. These tasks help refine their hand-eye coordination and dexterity, laying the groundwork for more advanced skills as they grow.
We incorporate the Object Permanence Box, a key Montessori tool, into our curriculum to help the young toddlers understand that objects exist even when out of sight. By placing a ball in the box and watching it reappear in a drawer, the children grasp the concept of object permanence.
Our program's language activities focus on promoting vocabulary building. These include singing songs to develop auditory skills and language rhythm, listening to simple storybooks to enhance listening and comprehension, and matching pictures with objects to expand vocabulary.
Gross motor skills involve the use and coordination of large muscle groups, which are vital for physical movement and coordination. Our children participate in activities such as carrying and balancing, outdoor play, climbing, and pushing toys, all of which help develop strength and improve coordination.
Music and movement are integral parts of our curriculum, offering the young toddlers opportunities for self-expression and physical activity. These activities help the toddlers explore rhythm, melody, and coordination in a fun and interactive way.
Socialization is key to a young toddler's development, helping them build social skills and a sense of belonging. In our class, we promote socialization through structured play, positive reinforcement, outdoor activities, and group interactions like singing songs and listening to stories together.
In the classroom, we emphasize "Grace and Courtesy," a key aspect of our philosophy. This involves modeling respectful and polite behavior for the children to observe and imitate. By practicing phrases like “I need space, please,” and “No, thank you,” we teach the children how to communicate their needs and boundaries politely, fostering positive social habits and respect for others.
Our program recognizes the unique needs of our Young Toddler Class by providing toddler-sized cots, perfectly suited to their size, offering a safe and cozy space for rest. To create a serene environment, we play peaceful music that gently lulls the toddlers to sleep.
At CWMS, we prioritize keeping parents of our Young Toddler Class connected to their little ones' daily experiences through Brightwheel. Brightwheel provides real-time updates on key aspects such as naptime—including when they fell asleep and how long they slept—diaper changes, and the meals and snacks they ate. These updates help parents cater to their child's needs effectively, fostering a strong partnership between home and school.
